22nd of March – World Day’s of  water
There is no life without water

Besides air, water is one of the most important resources, and without it life on the Earth wouldn’t be possible. A human can not be not be without water not even 7 days, while human can live without food even 26 days, if drinking water constantly. 40% of the world’s population does not have good-quality water for consuming, where 26% of the world’s population does not have enough water. The world’s need for the water is doubling every 20 years, where the climate changes are one of the biggest causes for situation like that. Because of using the non-adequate water (which does not fulfil the sanitary requirements) every year 3 million people dies.

We have to make sure that our children an future generations have enough of drinkable, good-quality water. Each of us can, and should make minimal effort and give contribution in order to save the natural resources as water is.

AND YOU ARE ONE OF THEM !!!

Analyses of the water supplying in Serbia shows that 60% drinking water does not fulfil the sanitary norms and that drinking water is mostly being used as technical water. 21. Century will be the century of fighting for domination for water resources. Whoever ménages over the water, he/she will create new world order.

Our country is too small to enter world’s imperialistic course but it can do a lot for the water that we already have ( wise use, and take proper care of it) .International community When realized the problems, International Community has taken the initiative for saving the water resources and wise water usage .

The European parliament, in the General Directive of Water, (adopted 23.10.2000.) made a point that:

’’WATER IS NOT COMMERCIAL PRODUCT
AS ANY OTHER, BUT IT IS THE NATURAL HERITAGE
THAT HAS TO BE PROTECTED,
AND TAKEN CARE OFF’’.

Water, especially the drinkable one, can not be no-ones private property, because water is the public good. Public society has an obligation to organise two main activities in order to save and keep the clean water, and in the same time help to save people’s health.

Those activities are:
  1. PREPARATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF ENOUGH CLEAN DRINKABLE WATER.
  2. PRE-CLEANING AND CLEANING OF THE WATER AND BRINGING IT BACK TO THE WATER COURSE OF WASTE WATERS.

Water, from the usage view, can be divided in 3 groups:

  1. Drinkable water of unconditional quality (approximate need 20%). It is used for drinking, cooking, washing, and personal hygiene,
  2. Drinkable water of questionable quality (approximate need 45%). It is used for washing cars, watering plants, etc…
  3. Water without enough quality for drinking (approximate need 35%). It is used for WC-washing, street washing, channel washing, fire stations, etc…

The water that economic subjects use isn’t appropriate for their qualitative requirements. They use the unconditional water because there isn’t a possibility to deliver the appropriate water. Wasted water we can divide up in three categories:

1. Communal wasted water.
2. Industrial wasted water.
3. Atmospherically wasted water.

The social community has taken over the responsibility of treating the communal waters, but the treatment of the industrial wasted waters is a concern of each of the producers in particular.

Economic subjects

In producing process you are wasting huge amount of drinkable water. Your children will very soon experience the water restrictions. This is why we ask you to actively participate in the action of preserving the water and also filtrating the wasted water. Your participation in this action has the economic and ethical dimension.

Economic aspects of being involved in the action of preserving the water.

-Reducing the producing expenses as well as the price of the product.
-Competition of the products and the possibility of exporting the water.

The water price is pretty high with the raising tendency. Where the technical possibilities permit, it’s necessary to use the water from the own sources (draw-wells…etc.). Then the water unite price will be lesser.

ATTENTION: Large amounts of underground water, that in Nis is not very deep, offer the possibility of providing the technical water with small investments. The treatment of wasted waters by the social community is stimulated through freeing and reducing the taxes for soil-pipes usage. The social community has foresight strict sanctions against the water contaminators. Exporting the water to the world market is conditioned by implanting the appropriate standards in the aspect of protecting the living environment. Our country has the obligation to establish appropriate regulations and standards in this area. There are passive and active measures for reducing water pollution. Passive measures require a lot of action and appropriate behaviour in the process of production for which there is a bigger need for economic justification. The appropriate relations towards the material and the producing instruments, improving the technological production processes and hiring well-educated staff, strictly monitoring the production expenses etc. give a great contribution to preserve the water. Implementing and increasing the passive measures in the production, the need for implementing and using expensive active measures, is reduced. Active measures require implementing the system for filtering the wasted waters.

By it’s technology these systems are divided to:
  1. Mechanical treatments,
  2. Chemical treatments,
  3. Biological treatments.

POPULATION

Population as well has a responsibility to contribute for keeping water clean. Activities for water protection are mostly organized by Public Communal

Service, whose assignment is collecting, re-cleaning polluted water.

But the most important is population’s contribution and their wise thinking.

For what do we use water?
  • Irrigation,
  • watering plants,
  • watering green areas,
  • washing (in general),
  • car washing,
  • personal hygiene,
  • cooking.

How can we save up water? The analyses of water usage in Niš:

  • 18 m3/st.per month – total usage of water
  • 5.0 m3/st.per month – the real necessity for water
  • 5.0 m3/st.per month – losses on home installation
  • 8.0 m3/st.per month – irrational usage of water

For some necessities (where the 100 percent water quality is not required) we can use the alternative options (water from well, etc…)
Agricultural producers are already using this water supplying alternative. In the cities, citizens can use this option of water supplying for necessities such as: car washing, etc…).
Positive examples of wise water usage are many individual households, as well as many unions of citizens, who invested in wells, from which water is being used. For personal necessities and cooking is not possible to provide good alternative for water supplying, but the wise usage is possible.

When it comes to households, the biggest water user is bathroom water tank. Bathroom water tank uses around 20-25% of total water.

It is determined that bathroom water tanks are non-functional, and not recommended because they spare the big amounts of water.

It is estimated that the major cause of water losses is caused by bathroom water tanks (around 70 percent %).

With a little effort we can save-up this precious liquid, and join the action of saving up the water.

In order for this action to succeed, it is necessary to control and check-up of bathroom water tanks and water taps, on monthly bases. That can be provided by house hold unions, and water saving up will succeed.

You can contribute in action save up the water when...
  • When you wash your teeth; switch off the water tap – saving 20 litres per day!
  • When washing your dishes, wash them from the water in sink instead water from running water- saving 130 litres of water per day!
  • Especially try to use wisely hot water, because with that you save the water and electricity as well.
  • Take a shower instead of taking a bath. For the full bathtub you will need 150 litres of water and for shower just 30 – 60 litres!
  • Fix your bathroom water tanks, and prevent water leaking.
  • Wash your cars reasonable number of times.
  • Use your washing and dish machines only when they are completely full.
  • Use less detergent when washing.

The sensors, which provide controlled using of water, are already being used world-wide. This sensor can help you save up even 80% (for example, in schools, it can be saved up around 47000 litres when using sensors in bathrooms. It is necessary to increase self-conscience and be more aware that healthy and clean water supplies are decreasing every day.

It is necessary to keep our water clean, to use it wisely in order to have it enough for us and up-coming generations.

THE SOCIAL COMMUNITY

The Social Community doesn’t put enough effort when it comes to saving up the water. In the water supplying politics the community (Public Communal Service) has to accomplish three main goals:
  1. to have extra water supplies, and to cover needs of water for period from 10-15 years,
  2. to increase easy growing of water capacity within next 25-30 years,
  3. to find and secure the water resources, so the needs for next 50 years are covered. Since we have water supplying problems constantly, it is clear that none of these goals are not achieved yet.

Social community has to make a special effort in order to solve problems of water resources, as well as:

  1. To adopt stimulative and repressive legal regulations in order to achieve rational water usage.
  2. To organize educational programs in order to form self-conscience for rational usage water

LET THE FUTURE GENERATIONS MENTION US FOR GOOD DEEDS !!!
